DR. ANDREW CALMAN, a full-time, board-certified comprehensive ophthalmologist with an active surgical practice, has served as an expert witness in over 300 cases including patent, antitrust, injury, class action, and malpractice cases, including some of the largest judgments and settlements ever awarded in the ophthalmology space. Yet he brings the same detailed analysis, diligence, energy, accessibility, and authenticity to all his cases, large and small.
Dr. Calman graduated from Yale University summa cum laude with a BS and MS in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry. He earned his MD and PhD in Microbiology and Immunology in the Medical Scientist Training Program of the University of California, San Francisco (winning the Dean's Prize, Alpha Omega Alpha, and the Chancellor's Fellowship), then completed his residency training in ophthalmology at the same institution. Dr. Calman holds faculty positions at UCSF and California Pacific Medical Center (where he serves as Vice-Chair for Faculty Development), and has trained medical students from around the world in his private practice.
Dr. Calman is Past President of the California Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, and helped shape regional and national eye care policy as a member of the Medicare Carrier Advisory Committee and the American Academy of Ophthalmology's Health Policy Committee. He also serves as an Associate Examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology, administering the oral examination for board certification.
